The XP DEUS II WS6-ST Master with the 22.5 cm (9 inch) FMF coil is the DEUS II configuration that runs from its headphones. The WS6-ST module on the headphones has its own screen and menus and runs the detector, with the coil on the S-Telescopic Lite stem. XP describes the WS6 Master as all the performance of the DEUS II in its lightest and most compact configuration, from 750 g (1.65 lb) with the 9 inch coil. Detection is the same Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) technology as every DEUS II: simultaneous multi-frequency programs or 49 single frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz, with 12 factory and 12 user programs.

Who the WS6-ST Master suits
We recommend the XP DEUS II for experienced coin, relic, jewelry and beach hunters who want substantial control over how their detector responds, and for demanding coin and relic hunting, when advanced audio, target separation and customization matter. What we like about it is the way it combines XP's Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) simultaneous multi-frequency technology with exceptional light weight, fast target response and extensive audio customization. Running the WS6-ST Master from the WS6-ST module keeps the stem and belt clear, and only two parts need charging: the coil and the WS6-ST. For wading deep or diving, the DEUS II RC is the configuration to look at, since its remote is the control unit XP rates for underwater use.
The full remote and the WS6-ST Master have different interfaces and available adjustments. For XP performance without the DEUS II's complexity, we would point you to the XP ICON or ICONX; for natural gold in relatively manageable ground, the XP ORX with an appropriate high-frequency coil is worth considering. Our Which XP DEUS II to Buy guide compares every configuration.
How the WS6-ST runs the detector
The WS6-ST module clips to the headphones and has a 64 x 64 pixel screen with its own menus, and a USB-C charging port. You can unclip the module and mount it on the stem if you would rather see the screen while you swing. The WS6-ST is also an ST stereo headset, which XP's Multi-Process stereo feature needs: it plays two audio channels with different Reactivity settings. With a DEUS II remote, the WS6-ST can work as headphones with the remote as master, or keep running the detector on its own.
Weight, stem and batteries
XP's figures for the WS6-ST Master with the 9 inch coil are 750 g (1.65 lb) counting the WS6-ST module only, and 810 g (1.79 lb) with the headphones. Those figures are for the 9 inch coil in this package, which weighs 345 g, and the S-Telescopic Lite stem weighs 305 g, against 370 g for the S-Telescopic stem on the RC configurations.
Two batteries need charging. The WS6-ST has a 365 mAh lithium battery rated for about 15 hours and charges in about 3 hours over USB; the FMF coil's 700 mAh battery runs 8 to 20 hours depending on program and frequency and charges in about 3 hours. XP's manual warns that opening the detector or replacing a battery yourself voids the warranty.

Water: a land and beach configuration
The 9 inch FMF coil is rated IP68 to 20 meters (66 feet), but the WS6-ST is rainproof only and not submersible, and in the Master configuration it is the control unit. Rain, wet sand and spray are fine; wading where the headphones could go under, or diving, is not. The submersible DEUS II setup is the RC remote with its red cap fitted, the aerial antenna and XP's BH-01 bone conduction headset, which plugs into the remote, all rated to 20 meters. On ocean beaches the WS6-ST Master runs the same Beach and Beach Sens programs as any DEUS II, and for regular saltwater beach hunting we recommend the DEUS II over the original XP DEUS, because FMF gives it a more suitable platform. On magnetic ground such as black sand, deep targets may be masked, and heavily mineralized ground reduces detection depth. On wet sand or in the surf, adjust Salt Sens rather than the general sensitivity.
Coils for the WS6-ST Master
Every DEUS II FMF coil works with the WS6-ST Master: the 9 inch, the 11 inch, the 13 x 11 inch and the HF2 high frequency coil, which runs FMF from 9 to 90 kHz and single frequencies up to 120 kHz. The 9 inch coil in this package is the lightest FMF coil; the 11 inch weighs 470 g and the 13 x 11 inch 570 g. In our experience its smaller footprint makes closely spaced targets easier to investigate on cluttered old homesites, and it is convenient around trees and foundations. A larger coil covers more ground per swing but weighs more. See our metal detector coils.
Settings: start with the factory programs
The WS6-ST runs the same 12 factory programs as the remote, from General and Park to Relic, Gold Field, Beach and Beach Sens, plus 12 user slots, and you adjust the detector's settings from the module's own menus. Start with a factory program before changing advanced settings, then learn Reactivity, ground balance, discrimination, Silencer and the difference between PWM and SQUARE audio. Picture a nineteenth-century farmhouse site with square nails scattered around an old foundation: we would start with the General or Sensitive program, then experiment with Reactivity and discrimination while listening carefully for repeatable non-ferrous responses between the iron signals. The mistake we see most often is setting Reactivity and iron filtering too aggressively, then assuming every remaining response is a desirable target; those adjustments can affect depth and target response. The greatest detection range comes at low Reactivity, but at a low level iron is detected for longer and can completely hide a ring next to it, so the DEUS II cannot see through every nail. If the detector gets noisy near power lines, fences or radio-relay stations, run a frequency scan first, then lower the sensitivity. Our guide to the XP DEUS II factory programs explains each preset.
