This is the XP ICONX with WSA ST wireless headphones plus an XP Backpack 240. The ICONX is a fully wireless, simultaneous multi-frequency (FMF) detector with an 11 in coil, three single-frequency options at 4, 14 and 28 kHz, and a weight XP gives as about 710 g (1.57 lb), fully equipped without the remote on the stem. It suits someone who wants one lightweight machine for parks, fields, wet sand and wading, and wants the headphones and a bag sorted on day one.
Who the ICONX package is for, and who should look elsewhere
The XP ICONX is aimed at the detectorist who expects to grow into the settings: it has six factory programs plus six user slots, seven reactivity levels (0 to 6), and a 28 kHz mono frequency for small targets. If you will mostly run factory programs on parks and beaches, the XP ICON does the same FMF job with 3 factory programs, 3 user slots, 4 and 14 kHz mono and five reactivity levels, at a lower price. If you want XP's full program set and coil range, the XP Deus II is the step up.
What the ICONX features mean in use
- FMF simultaneous multi-frequency: the coil transmits several frequencies at once, which is what keeps a detector steady on wet salt sand and mixed ground without you choosing a frequency first.
- 4, 14 and 28 kHz mono: single-frequency modes for when you want to lean toward deep, larger targets (4 kHz) or small gold and thin jewelry (28 kHz).
- Six factory programs: Wet Beach, Beach and Surf, Forest, Park, Field and Trashy Field, so the starting point is a site name, not a menu dive.
- Ground balance: grab, manual or automatic tracking.
- Fully wireless: remote, coil and headphones talk over XP's own radio link, with no coil cable on the stem to snag or wear through.
- Carbon middle stem: the ICONX ships with the Blue S-Telescopic Lite stem with a carbon middle part; it folds to 58 cm (22.8 in) and extends to 130 cm (51.2 in).
- Go Terrain app: XP's phone app logs sessions, finds and GPS routes.

The WSA ST headphones
XP's WSA ST is a 72 g wireless stereo headset made in France for the Deus II and ICON range. It charges over USB-C in about 2 hours, turns on and off with the remote once paired, has 10 volume levels and a 4-band equalizer you set from the remote. XP rates it rainproof, not waterproof, so it stays above the water line. The wireless link is about 10 times faster than low-latency Bluetooth, which is the point of using XP's own headset rather than a phone headset. WSA ST includes a 5-year warranty and its lithium battery is 2 years.
The XP Backpack 240
The Backpack 240 is XP's lighter detecting pack: 31 L, 700 g (1.5 lb), with a 65 cm (25.5 in) back length. This will carry one complete detector with its headphones, a pinpointer in its holster, a second coil, a digger, a bottle and a snack. Outside there is a compartment for two coils and lower stems, a pinpointer pocket with holster, a headphone pocket, a mesh pocket, a side bottle pocket and a light rain resistant zipped map pocket; the chest strap could carry an emergency whistle and the waist belt for a finds pouch. Inside is open space for coils, stem and digger, plus pockets for coils and for keys or the remote. It is green and black, with a 2-year warranty from XP. XP's heavier and larger Backpack, 280 (32 L, 1,850 g or 4.1 lb) is available in our XP carry bags and backpacks.
ICONX waterproof depth: remote, coil and headphones
- Remote with the included WSA ST headphones: The remote is waterproof and the headphones are good for wading and wet sand, not diving.
- Full submersion: 5 m (16 ft), which requires the optional BH-02 bone conduction headphones.
- Coil: the 11 in FMF coil waterproof to 16 ft.
Battery, charging and warranty
- Runtime: about 11 hours for the remote, coil and headphones.
- Detector charge time: 3 to 4 hours and WSA ST headphones charges in about 2 hours.
- Batteries: rechargeable lithium. XP supplies the remote's LiPo battery as a part (ref. D2-BAT-G0-002); the coil battery is sealed and is replaced by XP service or an XP dealer (ref. IC-D28-F0-001).
- Charging temperature: 32 to 104 °F (0 to 40 °C).
- Detector warranty: 5 years once you register the detector in your XP account; XP also offers an extension to 10 years for an additional price.
Compatible XP accessories
- XP FMF and HF2 coils (XP lists the ICONX as compatible with the Deus II FMF ecosystem)
- XP MI-6 pinpointer, wirelessly paired
- XP BH-02 bone conduction headphones for underwater use
- XP Go Terrain app
Where the ICONX works well, and where it does not
The ICONX fits wet beaches, shallow surf, parks and plowed fields: FMF handles salt and mixed ground, and the Trashy Field program and higher reactivity settings are there for iron-heavy sites. At about 710 g (without the remote on the stem) it is light enough for long sessions. It is not a dive detector straight out of this box, because the WSA ST headphones are rainproof only; underwater work needs the BH-02. For dedicated hunting of very small gold in hot ground, a purpose-built gold machine or XP's HF2 coil is the better tool than the stock 11 in FMF coil.
The first thing most people ask once they have picked a detector is what to carry it in. The Backpack 240 answers that without adding much weight, and it holds the pinpointer and a spare coil you will want sooner or later.
