Minelab VANQUISH 560 Metal Detector

The Minelab VANQUISH 560 is the top model in the VANQUISH 60 Series: a Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency metal detector, IP68 waterproof to 5 m (16 ft), with the V12X 12 x 9 inch Double-D coil, wired headphones and Bluetooth LE Audio (LC3) for compatible wireless headphones. Five target tones, four Iron Bias levels and ferrous volume in 10 levels suit hunters who want the most audio and iron control in the series. The VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK comes with both the V12X and V8X 8 x 5 inch coils and ML60 wireless earbuds. This collection holds the VANQUISH 560 and PRO-PACK packages and the coils, headphones and parts that fit them.

Minelab VANQUISH 560 Metal Detector Overview

The Minelab VANQUISH 560 runs Multi-IQ, transmitting on multiple frequencies at once in every search mode, so there is no frequency to pick. Onboard you get Park, Field and Beach modes, a User Profile and an All Metal button, ten sensitivity levels, 30 discrimination segments across 119 Target IDs from -19 to 99, four Iron Bias levels, ferrous volume in 10 levels, five target tones, ten volume levels, pinpoint, a 5-level depth indicator and automatic noise cancel. It also has a red LED display backlight, keypad backlight, flashlight and handgrip vibration. The whole detector, control box and coil, is IP68 rated to 5 m (16 ft). The VANQUISH 560 weighs 1.26 kg (2.8 lb), extends to 142 cm (56 inch), and its built-in lithium-ion battery runs up to 10 hours and charges through a magnetic USB connector. The standard VANQUISH 560 comes with the V12X 12 x 9 inch Double-D coil and wired headphones, and Minelab covers the control box and coil for 3 years.

The VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK is the same detector with both the V12X and the V8X 8 x 5 inch Double-D coils and Minelab ML60 wireless earbuds, made for Bluetooth LE Audio with the LC3 codec. If you are comparing with the VANQUISH 540, Minelab rates the 540 coil waterproof to 1 m (3.3 ft) and the 540 runs on four AA NiMH batteries, while the 560 is submersible to 5 m (16 ft) as a whole detector and has a built-in battery. Our VANQUISH 560 review covers the detector in more depth.

VANQUISH 560 vs. VANQUISH 460: Which Should You Buy?

The VANQUISH 560 and the VANQUISH 460 share Multi-IQ, Park, Field and Beach modes with a User Profile, 30 discrimination segments, ten sensitivity levels, Bluetooth LE Audio (LC3), the backlight, flashlight and vibration, wired headphones in the standard box and the IP68 16-foot rating. The VANQUISH 560 adds five target tones instead of three, a fourth Iron Bias level, ferrous volume adjustable in 10 levels and the V12X 12 x 9 inch coil.

If you spend long days on old homesites, farm fields and heavily hunted parks and want more audio and iron control, we recommend the VANQUISH 560. If you mostly hunt parks and beaches, the VANQUISH 460 gives you the same discrimination and wireless audio, and its smaller V10X coil handles tight, trashy spots well.

VANQUISH 560, Best For:

  • Relic hunters on iron-heavy homesites who want to turn iron down instead of rejecting it
  • Hunters who want five target tones to sort targets by ear
  • Open fields and beaches where the V12X 12 x 9 inch coil covers more ground per swing
  • Buyers who want two coils and wireless earbuds in one box with the PRO-PACK

VANQUISH 460, Best For:

  • Park and beach hunters who want adjustable discrimination and Iron Bias
  • Detectorists who prefer the V10X 10 x 7 inch coil for tight, trashy ground
  • Hunters who want Bluetooth LE Audio, vibration and a backlit display at the middle of the series
  • Hunters who are happy with three target tones

Key Features That Matter in the Field

Five target tones split the Target ID range into more audio categories than the three on the VANQUISH 360 and 460, so you can hear differences without watching the display. A gold ring can still sound like aluminum trash, though. Ferrous volume sets how loud iron sounds, separately from the main volume. Around an old farmhouse full of nails, turning iron down keeps the site information that rejecting iron would hide. We recommend starting low and raising it until the audio tells you enough.

Iron Bias decides how the detector treats targets with a mixed iron and non-ferrous response, such as a coin next to a nail. The VANQUISH 560 has four levels, one more than the VANQUISH 460, and its least aggressive level suits homesites where you would rather dig questionable signals than risk rejecting a good one.

Field mode is Minelab's mode for fields and relic sites, with a faster recovery speed and a lower Iron Bias than Park. Beach mode is built for salt beaches, including underwater, and tracks the ground automatically. The User Profile keeps your own changes after the detector is switched off.

Where the Minelab VANQUISH 560 Performs Best

The VANQUISH 560 is at its best on old homesites, farm fields and heavily hunted parks, where it gives you the most iron and audio control in the series, and on broad, fairly clean beaches, where the V12X coil covers ground quickly. The IP68 5 m (16 ft) rating covers wet sand and shallow water. For underwater audio, Minelab specifies its 3.5 mm waterproof headphones, and the detector should not go underwater while charging.

Black sand, heavy mineralization and interference can still affect it, and for demanding ocean beaches or more adjustment we would also look at the EQUINOX 900. If you are weighing the VANQUISH 560 against the X-TERRA line, read our VANQUISH 560 vs X-TERRA PRO comparison. The VANQUISH 560 finds gold jewelry, but it has no gold mode; see our gold detectors for natural gold.

Coils and Accessories That Fit the Minelab VANQUISH 560

The standard Minelab VANQUISH 560 comes with the V12X 12 x 9 inch elliptical Double-D coil and its skidplate, and the PRO-PACK adds the V8X 8 x 5 inch coil. Minelab lists six coils for the VANQUISH 60 Series: the V8X 8 x 5 inch, V10X 10 x 7 inch and V12X 12 x 9 inch elliptical Double-D coils, and the EQX 06 6 inch, EQX 11 11 inch and EQX 15 15 x 12 inch Double-D coils. The first-generation V8, V10 and V12 coils are not on Minelab's list for the 60 Series. We recommend the V12X for open ground and the V8X around foundations and in heavy iron. Each Minelab coil comes with its coil cover, and replacement V8, V10 and V12 skidplates are in this collection.

This collection also holds the magnetic USB-C charging cable, battery assembly, armrest, arm strap and headphone cap for the VANQUISH 60 Series, Coiltek NOX coils, Minelab wired headphones and the Minelab Detector Backpack. VANQUISH 560 and PRO-PACK bundles add a PRO-FIND 15, 35 or 40 pinpointer, the Minelab Adventure Pack, a carry bag or the backpack.

VANQUISH 360 vs. VANQUISH 460 vs. VANQUISH 560 Comparison

All three VANQUISH 60 Series detectors run Multi-IQ, share the -19 to 99 Target ID scale and are IP68 rated to 5 m (16 ft). They differ in search modes, discrimination, iron control, audio, lighting and the coil in the box.

Is the Minelab VANQUISH 560 fully waterproof?

Yes, the Minelab VANQUISH 560 is fully waterproof: Minelab rates the whole detector IP68, submersible to 5 m (16 ft). Accessories are a different matter. Minelab specifies its 3.5 mm waterproof headphones for underwater detecting, publishes no water rating for the ML60 earbuds, and warns against taking the detector underwater while it is charging or running from a power bank. See our waterproof metal detectors.
