The lower shaft is the section of the Manticore that carries the coil, and this is the genuine Minelab carbon fiber replacement, part number 3011-0481. Most people buy it for one of two reasons: they run more than one coil and are tired of unbolting the coil every time the ground changes, or they damaged the original and want the factory part rather than an aftermarket copy.

Who Actually Needs a Spare Lower Shaft

If you run one coil and never change it, you do not need this. The shaft that came with your Manticore does the same job, and your money is better spent on a second coil first. This part earns its place once you already own two or more coils. Mount each coil on its own shaft and swapping configurations becomes a matter of releasing the cam lock and sliding one shaft out for the other, rather than kneeling in wet sand working a coil bolt loose with cold hands.

That workflow matters most if you change coils by ground type rather than by preference: something small and nimble for trashy, iron-dense ground, something wide for open fields or beach. Our Minelab Manticore coils guide covers what the M8, M9, M11 and M15 are each suited to, which is worth reading before you decide how many shafts you actually need.

    Why Carbon Fiber

Carbon fiber is used here for the same reason Minelab uses it on the rest of the Manticore shaft system: it is stiff without being heavy, and it does not corrode the way metal hardware does after repeated exposure to salt water. Rinse the shaft with fresh water after beach hunts, the same as you would the coil, and dry it before it goes back in the bag. There is no anodising to wear through and no bare metal to pit.

    Specifications

    • Minelab Part Number: 3011-0481
    • Component: Lower shaft assembly
    • Material: Carbon fiber
    • Compatibility: Minelab Manticore

    Compatibility

Minelab lists this assembly for the Minelab Manticore, and it accepts the Manticore search coils. If you are running a different Minelab machine, check the part number against your own manual before ordering, since shaft systems are not shared across every model in the range. If you are still weighing up whether the Manticore is the right detector for you in the first place, our Manticore review covers how it holds up in the field.

    Why Buy from Serious Detecting

Serious Detecting is an authorized Minelab dealer, so this is genuine Minelab stock covered by the manufacturer warranty rather than an aftermarket lookalike. Our team detects with the same equipment we sell, so a question about fitment gets answered by someone who has had the shaft apart. Most orders over $99 ship free to the lower 48, returns stay open for 30 days, and we price match competitor offers on identical in-stock items. Browse the rest of our Minelab equipment, or the full range of metal detector parts and accessories.
