The Nokta Double Score metal detector brings simultaneous multi-frequency stability to the price point most detectorists upgrade from a single-frequency VLF, with a 16-foot waterproof body, adjustable recovery speed, and built-in wireless audio that pairs to Nokta's Score Series headphones.
Why Detectorists Step Up to the Double Score
- Locked target IDs across mineralized parks and saltwater wet sand. Multi-IQ4 SMF runs multiple frequencies at once, so a clad quarter reads the same on dry sand, the wet apron, and inland under iron mulch, instead of bouncing around like it does on a single-frequency machine.
- Adjustable recovery speed from 1 to 3 for trashy old sites. Crank it up at colonial home foundations and the Double Score stops missing the whisper signals between iron nails. Slow it down in a clean park and you gain a touch more depth.
- Real ground balance options: automatic, manual, and tracking. Tracking holds steady when the soil shifts every few steps, which is the difference between a clean threshold and constant chatter on hot ground.
- Iron filter from 0 to 9 plus notch and segment discrimination. Dial out bottle caps and small iron at the beach without losing thin gold or silver dimes.
- IP68 to 16 ft (5 m). The shaft, control box, and SC30 coil are all submersible, so the wet sand transition zone and shallow surf are open ground.
- Built-in wireless audio module. The Double Score pairs directly to Nokta Score Series wireless headphones for a cordless hunt, with the wireless headphones available as a separate add-on or in our bundle SKUs.
Detectorists weighing the Score Series often start with the lighter spec sibling, so the Nokta Score collection page lays out current pricing and bundles for direct comparison.

Where the Double Score Earns Its Keep
Saltwater Beaches and the Wet Apron
Wet salt sand is where single-frequency detectors smear target IDs and start nulling. Multi-IQ4 SMF reads the wet apron and shallow surf without losing audio stability, and the IP68 16-foot rating lets us walk the swash and submerge the coil cleanly. Iron filter set low keeps gold rings and silver chain links in audio range while filtering out small bottle caps that hide in the same conductivity band.
- Mode: Beach
- Sensitivity: 6 to 8 (back off if EMI rises)
- Ground Balance: Tracking
- Discrimination: All-metal with iron filter at 2 to 3
Trashy Old Parks and Tot Lots
Adjustable recovery speed earns its keep in older parks layered with bottle caps and rusted iron. Crank recovery to 3 and the Double Score separates close targets, so coins next to nails get their own audio instead of one masked beep.
- Mode: Park
- Sensitivity: 7 to 8
- Ground Balance: Auto
- Discrimination: Notch out 1 to 5; keep 6 to 60 open
Plowed Fields and Open Ground for Relics
Open ground rewards stability over speed. Drop recovery to 1, run Field mode, and the Double Score holds a clean threshold across uneven mineralization, with the SC30 12" x 9" coil giving wide coverage on every sweep. Manual ground balance lets us lock in a number for known soil and stop fighting auto adjustments on the swing edge, which matters on long passes through fields where the soil reads consistently for hours at a time.
- Mode: Field
- Sensitivity: 8 to 9
- Ground Balance: Manual or Tracking
- Discrimination: All-metal with iron filter at 4 to 5
Multi-IQ4 SMF and Why It Holds Target IDs
The Double Score runs simultaneous multi-frequency detection centered at 15 kHz, processing several frequencies at once rather than one at a time. The benefit on the ground is target ID consistency: a Wheat penny at depth reads as a penny on dry sand, wet sand, and under inland mineralization, and a thin gold ring stays in its window instead of jumping into the iron range. The 60-segment target ID scale gives finer separation than the simplified maps on entry-level VLFs, and harmonic audio tones make it possible to pick out multiple targets in a single swing without looking at the screen. Our full Score Series comparison guide walks through the spec differences across the line.
The two custom user profiles save the settings we use most. Profile 1 holds a beach configuration, Profile 2 holds a park or relic configuration, and a single button press swaps between them at the next site. Coming from a single-frequency VLF where every site reset means menu diving, the saved profiles cut wasted time at the truck and keep the swing time productive.
Build, Display, and Audio
The Double Score weighs 2.7 lb (1.25 kg) with the SC30 coil mounted, on a carbon-fiber shaft that collapses for travel and extends for taller users. The custom backlit LCD reads cleanly in direct sun, and the integrated LED flashlight is useful for early-morning beach starts and tot-lot recoveries after dusk. Vibration alerts run alongside audio for divers and noisy beachfronts.
Audio runs through a built-in speaker or pairs wirelessly to the Nokta Score Series wireless headphones (sold separately or bundled in our headphone-included SKUs). The Score Series headphones use Nokta's low-latency wireless protocol, so the audio stays in sync with the swing. For pinpoint recoveries we pair the Double Score with the Nokta AccuPOINT pinpointer, which links wirelessly to the detector audio over the same wireless chain.
Coil Options
The SC30 12" x 9" Waterproof DD coil ships standard and is the right call for general coin and relic hunting, beach work, and most park sessions. It strikes a balance between coverage and small-target sensitivity, with enough footprint to cover ground efficiently in open terrain. For tighter target separation in dense iron, the smaller SC24 round coil swaps in via the standard Score Series mount and improves performance in trashy ghost towns and old foundations where target masking gets thick. Both coils are submersible to the same 16-foot rating as the control box, so a coil swap before a beach session does not give up any waterproofing.
