    Best for

Highlighted icons show the targets, ground and experience level this detector is built for.

This is an open box Minelab EQUINOX 900: a complete, factory-fresh unit that came back to us with the box opened, inspected and tested by our team, and sold at a discount against the sealed unit. You get the same Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency detector, both the EQX11 11 in and EQX06 6 in Double-D coils, the ML 85 low latency wireless headphones, and the full 3-year Minelab warranty. If you want a sealed unit at full price, see our new EQUINOX 900 listing.

    Open Box Condition

    • Unit: Complete and tested. Cosmetically new or very close to it; any marks are limited to light handling of the packaging or shaft.
    • Contents: Every factory item listed below is included, checked against Minelab's packing list before it ships.
    • Warranty: Full 3-year Minelab manufacturer warranty on the control box and coils, the same as a sealed unit, registered from your purchase date.
    • Stock: Open box quantities are limited to what comes back, so the listing may go unavailable between batches.

What You Get with the EQUINOX 900

    • Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency: Low and high frequencies transmit together, so silver, gold and thin jewelry all respond on one pass and wet salt sand stays quiet in Beach mode. Six single frequencies (4, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 40 kHz) are there when you want to target one conductor range.
    • Four search modes, eight profiles: Park, Field, Beach and Gold, each with two custom profiles.
    • 119 target IDs: Ferrous –19 to 0 and non-ferrous 1 to 99, stable at depth, with Iron Bias and 1 to 8 Recovery Speed to tune separation in trash.
    • Two coils in the box: The EQX11 11 in Double-D for coverage and depth, the EQX06 6 in Double-D for iron-heavy sites and tight spots. Both waterproof with skid plates.
    • Wireless audio included: ML 85 low latency wireless headphones, plus built-in speaker and a 3.5 mm wired jack with waterproof cap.
    • Waterproof to 16 ft: IP68 control pod and coils, so snorkeling and wading are on the table.
    • Built for low light: Control pod flashlight, red backlit display, backlit keypad and handgrip vibration.
    • Light and compact: 1.27 kg (2.8 lbs) on a 3-piece carbon fiber shaft that packs down to 24 in.

    Field Use

    Parks and Schoolyards

Run Park 1 with the EQX11 in Multi-IQ, 5 Tones, Recovery Speed 5 or 6 and Iron Bias around mid-range. Clad and silver sit in the 80s and 90s; pull tabs scatter through the 40s and 50s. Swap to the EQX06 for the trashy strip along the sidewalk where the 11 in coil masks coins next to can slaw.

    Farm Fields and Relic Sites

Field 2 with Recovery Speed 6 to 8 and a low Iron Bias unmasks non-ferrous targets sitting beside nails. Tracking ground balance keeps the machine quiet across changing soil. All Tones with Depth lets you judge which faint signals justify a deep hole.

    Beach and Shallow Water

Beach 1 for dry and wet sand, Beach 2 in the water. Multi-IQ handles salt where single-frequency machines fall apart, and the IP68 rating covers wading to 16 ft. A sand scoop and waterproof headphones round out the setup; the ML 85s are not waterproof.

    Gold Prospecting

Gold 1 and Gold 2 run higher frequencies in Multi-IQ for small nuggets. The EQX06 is the coil for bedrock crevices and mineralized patches. For dedicated nugget machines, compare with our gold detector collection.

EQUINOX 900 vs. EQUINOX 700 vs. Manticore

The EQUINOX 700 drops the Gold modes, the 6 in coil, the 20 and 40 kHz single frequencies and ships with wired audio. The Manticore steps up to Multi-IQ+ with more power, a 2D target ID map and ten custom modes at a higher price. For most coin, relic, beach and casual gold hunters, an open box 900 is the sweet spot in our multi-frequency detector collection.

What does "open box" mean for this EQUINOX 900?

It is a complete EQUINOX 900 whose box has been opened, usually a return that was never used in the field or a unit we unpacked for inspection. Our team powers it up, checks every factory item against Minelab's packing list, and repacks it. Cosmetically it is new or very close to it. You are getting the same detector, coils and ML 85 headphones as the sealed unit at a lower price. All of our current open box and demo units are in one place in our open box collection.

    Answered by John W. · September 2026

Does an open box EQUINOX 900 still have the 3-year warranty?

Yes. As an authorized Minelab dealer, an open box unit from us carries the full 3-year Minelab manufacturer warranty on the control box and coils, registered from your purchase date, exactly like a sealed unit. If you would rather have a factory-sealed box, our new EQUINOX 900 listing is the same package at full price.

    Answered by Richard T. · September 2026

Are both coils and the wireless headphones included in the open box unit?

Yes. The open box EQUINOX 900 ships with everything Minelab puts in the retail box: the EQX11 11 in Double-D coil, the EQX06 6 in Double-D coil, skid plates for both, the ML 85 low latency wireless headphones, screen protector, USB charging cable and Getting Started Guide. If you ever need a replacement coil or extra skid plate, they are in our search coil collection.

    Answered by Dan P. · September 2026

Is the EQUINOX 900 worth it over the EQUINOX 700?

If you hunt beaches, prospect for gold, or work trashy sites, yes. The 900 adds the two Gold modes, the 6 in coil for iron-heavy ground, 20 and 40 kHz single frequencies, wireless ML 85 headphones and a higher sensitivity ceiling. The 700 is the better buy if you mostly hunt parks and fields with the 11 in coil and do not need wireless audio. You can compare them on our EQUINOX 700 page.

    Answered by Evan K. · September 2026

Can I use the EQUINOX 900 in salt water?

Yes. Beach 1 handles dry and wet salt sand, Beach 2 is tuned for detecting in the water, and the control pod and coils are IP68 waterproof to 16 ft (5 m). The ML 85 headphones are not waterproof, so for surf and snorkeling use the built-in speaker or a set of waterproof wired headphones from our headphone collection.

    Answered by John W. · September 2026

Is there a military discount on the EQUINOX 900?

Yes. Active and retired military buyers can use our separate EQUINOX 900 military discount listing, which is a sealed unit with proof of service required at checkout. The open box price on this page is available to everyone, so compare the two and take whichever is lower for you. Details on what proof we accept are on the EQUINOX 900 Military Discount page.
