The stock NiMH pack on the Impulse AQ gives roughly 3.5 hours; this pack is rated for 5.5 to 6 hours, enough to work a full low-tide window without carrying a second pack. It weighs 13.3 ounces and ships with its own charger.

Do you need it?

If your beach sessions run under three hours, the stock battery already covers you and this is money better spent on the 8-inch Impulse AQ coil or waterproof headphones. If you hunt from the outgoing tide through the turn, or you travel to beaches where you cannot recharge between sessions, the longer runtime is the upgrade that changes the day. Fisher also lists a 98 Wh version rated for 11 to 12 hours at 20.3 ounces; ask us about availability if you need that much runtime on one charge.

Using the pack in the field

Charge it fully with the included charger before the first hunt; a full charge takes about five hours. Lithium-ion holds voltage more evenly through the discharge than NiMH, so the detector's threshold stays steadier late in the session.
