The DetectorPro Gray Ghost Amphibian II is a wired, fully submersible headphone built for the XP Deus II. It plugs into the waterproof connector on the Deus II remote control and replaces both the WS6 pod for land hunting and any bone-conduction headset for water, so one pair covers surf, creeks and dry parks. DetectorPro builds them in the USA, and the sealed design is rated well beyond the Deus II's own 20-metre limit.

Check your Deus II package before you buy

The Amphibian II connects to the round waterproof socket on the Deus II remote control, so you need an RC package; the WS6 Master, which has no remote, cannot use it. If you own a WS6 Master and want water audio, the XP Deus II range lists XP's own bone-conduction headphones instead. If you own the original Deus or the ORX, this is the wrong version: DetectorPro makes the Amphibian II with different connectors for each detector, and our DetectorPro headphones collection is filtered by compatible model.

What they are like in the water and on land

The muffs seal the ear fully and cut ambient noise by up to 24 dB, which matters more in the water than on land: with the surf roaring you still hear the Deus II's faint deep tones and the difference between a gold ring and a pull tab. The speakers are solid-state so there is no cone to soak, and the muff-to-muff cable and the coiled lead to the remote are both heavy-duty with a moulded waterproof plug. The headband is padded and adjustable with no screws or wire frame, so nothing rusts after salt water; rinse the whole headset in fresh water when you get home. On land they run louder than the earlier Amphibian model, and they fold flat for the bag. At about 1.2 lb they are heavier than the WS6 pod, which is the trade for a headset you can dunk. Do the Gray Ghost Amphibian II headphones work with the Deus II WS6 Master?

No. The Amphibian II plugs into the round waterproof socket on the Deus II remote control, so it needs an RC package. The WS6 Master has no remote and no compatible socket. WS6 Master owners who want water audio should look at XP's bone-conduction headphones instead; both are in our XP Deus II range. If you own an RC package, this is the wired headset that works on land and under water.

Can I dive with the Gray Ghost Amphibian II on the Deus II?

Yes, within the detector's own limit. DetectorPro rates the Amphibian II to 200 feet, but the Deus II remote and coil are rated to 20 metres (66 feet), so the detector sets the ceiling, not the headphones. Attach the aerial antenna to the remote for underwater use, fit the diving cap, and rinse the headset in fresh water after salt. Our waterproof metal detectors collection lists deeper-rated machines if you dive below 20 metres.

    Answered by Dan P. · September 2026

Are the Amphibian II headphones better than the XP WS6 for land hunting?

For sound isolation, yes; for weight and convenience, no. The Amphibian II's sealed muffs block up to 24 dB of wind and traffic, so faint deep tones are easier to hear than through the WS6's open ear cups, but they weigh about 1.2 lb and tether you to the remote by cable. Most owners run the WS6 on dry land and swap to the Amphibian II for beach and water hunts. Compare both in our metal detector headphones collection.
