Minelab ML 80 Wireless Headphones for Equinox 600/800, Vanquish 540, GPX 6000

The Minelab ML 80 is the wireless headphone Minelab built for the Equinox 600 and 800, and it also pairs with the Vanquish 540 and GPX 6000. It uses aptX Low Latency Bluetooth, which is the difference between wireless headphones that feel wired and wireless headphones that make you dig a foot past the target. If you own one of those four detectors and want to lose the cable, this is the matching part.

Check your detector before you buy

The ML 80 is machine-specific. It works with the Minelab Equinox 800 and Equinox 600, the Vanquish 540 and the GPX 6000. It is not the right headphone for the Equinox 700 or 900, the Manticore, or the X-Terra Pro and Elite; those use Minelab's newer ML 85 and ML 105 headphones, and they do not have the 3.5 mm socket the ML 80's aux cable needs. The Vanquish 340 and 440 have no Bluetooth, so they need a wired headphone. Why low latency matters when you are swinging a coil

Ordinary Bluetooth audio arrives well after the coil passes the target, so your ear places the signal a few inches behind where it really is and pinpointing turns into guesswork. aptX Low Latency cuts that delay to a fraction, close enough to a wired connection that you can wiggle the coil over a target and trust the tone. The ML 80 pairs from the detector's Bluetooth menu; on the Equinox, hold the wireless button until the aptX LL icon appears rather than the plain Bluetooth icon, or you will be on the slow codec. When the battery runs down or you are hunting near heavy interference, the included aux cable turns them into wired headphones through the detector's 3.5 mm socket, so a flat battery never ends a hunt.

They are over-ear with padded cups and an adjustable headband, comfortable for a full session, and they fold into the included zip case for the truck. They are not waterproof: for wading or beach hunting in the surf with the Equinox, use Minelab's wired waterproof headphones instead, and keep the ML 80 for dry land.
