This is a right angle headphone adapter with a 1/4 in (6.35 mm) stereo plug on one end and a 3.5 mm (1/8 in) stereo jack on the other. The plug goes into the detector and your headphones plug into the adapter, so headphones with a 3.5 mm plug can be used on a metal detector that has a 1/4 in headphone jack. It is a one-piece adapter with no cable and no volume control.
Connectors
- Into the detector: 1/4 in (6.35 mm) stereo male plug
- For the headphones: 3.5 mm (1/8 in) stereo female jack
- Layout: right angle, with the plug and the jack at 90 degrees to each other
- Part number: HP-1814-ANG
Who this adapter is for
Buy this adapter if your detector has a 1/4 in headphone jack and the headphones you want to use end in a 3.5 mm plug.
It is the wrong part in three cases:
- Your detector already has a 3.5 mm socket. Headphones with a 3.5 mm plug go straight in and no adapter is needed.
- Your headphones have a 1/4 in plug and your detector has a 3.5 mm socket. That takes the opposite adapter, a 3.5 mm plug to a 1/4 in jack. The adapter cables we carry are listed with our metal detector headphones.
- Your detector has a waterproof headphone connector instead of a round jack. The detector maker's own adapter cable has to go on first.
What the design means in use
- Right angle body. The 3.5mm jack sits at 90 degrees to the 1/4 in plug, so the headphone cable leaves at a right angle to the detector's jack instead of straight out.
- Stereo plug. The 1/4 in plug is a three-contact stereo plug. Use headphones with a stereo 3.5 mm plug as well, because some detectors will not work with a mono plug.
- No volume control. This adapter has no control of its own. Volume comes from the detector or from the headphones.
What is in the package
One right angle adapter. Headphones and cables are not included.
Detectors this adapter fits
This adapter plugs directly into a detector with a standard 1/4 in headphone jack. As of October 2026, these are the models we have checked against the manufacturer's manual or product page:
- Garrett ACE 200, Garrett ACE 300 and Garrett ACE 400
- Fisher F22, Fisher F44 and Fisher F75
- Fisher Gold Bug and Fisher Gold Bug Pro
- Bounty Hunter Tracker IV
Fisher's manuals for the F75, Gold Bug and Gold Bug Pro say headphones with a mono plug will not work on those detectors. Use headphones with a stereo 3.5 mm plug when connecting through this adapter.
Detectors that do not need this adapter
As of October 2026, these detectors have a 3.5 mm (1/8 in) headphone socket, so headphones with a 3.5 mm plug connect without an adapter:
- Minelab Equinox 700 and Minelab Equinox 900
- Minelab Manticore
- Minelab X-Terra Pro and Minelab X-Terra Elite
- Minelab Vanquish 360, Minelab Vanquish 460 and Minelab Vanquish 560
- Garrett ACE Apex
- Garrett Vortex VX5, Garrett Vortex VX7 and Garrett Vortex VX9
Detectors with a waterproof headphone connector
Some detectors use a sealed connector instead of a round headphone jack, and this 1/4 in to 3.5 mm adapter does not plug into them directly. The detector maker's adapter cable goes on first and provides a 1/4 in jack. This adapter then plugs into that jack if your headphones are 3.5 mm.
- Garrett AT Pro, Garrett AT Gold and Garrett AT Max: 2-pin connector. Garrett's 1/4 in Headphone Adapter, part number 1626000, converts it to a 1/4 in jack. Garrett states that its adapter is not for submerged use.
- Nokta Legend, Nokta Legend 2, Nokta Simplex Ultra, Nokta Score, Nokta Double Score and Nokta Triple Score: combined headphone and charging socket. Nokta's Headphones Adapter, part number 17000731, converts it to a 6.3 mm (1/4 in) jack. Nokta's Simplex Ultra manual lists that adapter for land use only.
Keep this adapter dry
Treat the HP-1814-ANG adapter as a dry-land part. We have no waterproof rating for it. Fisher's F22 and F44 manuals also say not to use headphones in rain or very wet conditions. For wading or surf hunting, use waterproof headphones made for the detector's own connector.
Right angle or straight
We also carry a straight version of this adapter, part number HP-1814-STR, with the same 1/4 in stereo plug and 3.5 mm stereo jack in a straight body. Choose by where the headphone jack sits on your detector: the right angle adapter (HP-1814-ANG) turns the headphone cable 90 degrees, and the straight adapter keeps it in line with the jack.
