The Anderson 12 in Carbon Fiber Lower Rod is the replacement lower shaft for detectorists who have already fitted an Anderson shaft assembly to a Fisher machine. If you have snapped a lower rod, worn out the coil ears, or want a spare in the bag for a long trip, this is the part that goes back on. It is Anderson part 0703J, cut specifically for the Anderson system rather than the shaft your detector left the factory with.
Make Sure You Are Buying the Right Rod
This is the single thing worth checking before you order, because the two rods look nearly identical side by side. This rod fits Anderson shaft assemblies only. If your Fisher detector is still running its original factory shaft, the rod you want is the Anderson Fisher 12 in Black Carbon Fiber Lower Rod instead. Look at the upper shaft on your detector: if it is an Anderson replacement, this rod is correct. If you are unsure, measure the rod currently on the machine and get in touch before ordering rather than guessing.
What a Lower Rod Does and Why Carbon Fiber Matters
The lower rod, sometimes called the lower shaft or coil rod, is the section that carries your search coil and takes the most abuse on any detector. It is the part that goes into wet sand and creek water, that levers against rocks when you are working a target, and that flexes every time you swing. It is also the piece furthest from your hand, so weight there costs you more fatigue than weight anywhere else on the machine.
Carbon fiber addresses both problems. It has a better stiffness-to-weight ratio than fiberglass or aluminium, so the rod resists flex without adding swing weight at the far end, and it does not corrode in salt water. This rod arrives with the coil yoke ears and the spring detent clip already fitted, so it drops straight into an Anderson upper without additional hardware.
Fisher Detector Compatibility
Fitted to an Anderson shaft assembly, this rod covers the following Fisher metal detectors:
- Fisher 1280 and 1280X
- Fisher F2, F4, F5, F11, F19, F22, F44
- Fisher F70 and F75
- Fisher Gold Bug and Gold Bug 2
Several of those models are discontinued. They are listed deliberately, because owners of older machines are usually the ones hunting for a replacement rod, and those detectors stay in the field long after the manufacturer stops listing them.
