The OKM Fusion Professional is a 3D ground scanner and metal detector built for treasure hunters, cavity seekers and archaeologists who need to see what is buried before they dig. It pairs two operating modes, 3D Ground Scan and Live Sound (magnetometer), with an SRIS search coil for shallow metal and a pre-configured Windows notebook running Visualizer 3D Studio. OKM designed the Fusion Professional as the redesigned successor to the Future 2018 Anniversary Edition, with 3D scan beginners in mind, so the workflow stays simple while the scan data is detailed enough to estimate the position, size and depth of a target. According to OKM, customers have located objects as deep as 21 m (69 ft) with this technology.

Is the Fusion Professional the Right OKM Scanner for You?
The Fusion Professional sits in the middle of the OKM Fusion line. If you want horizontal multi-sensor scanning on a telescopic rod, a notebook mount and the Live Scan mode for instant on-screen images, step up to the OKM Fusion Professional Plus, which also ships with the Professional Edition of Visualizer 3D Studio. If you would rather view scans on an Android smartphone and can do without the SRIS coil and Bluetooth headphones, the OKM Fusion Light covers 3D Ground Scan and magnetometer work at a lower price. A 3D ground scanner is also the wrong tool for nugget hunting: Live Sound responds to ferrous metals, so if small gold is your target, a dedicated gold detector will serve you far better.
Two Operating Modes, One Vertical Probe
The Fusion Professional probe is used in vertical orientation only. You carry the control unit in one hand and the notebook in the other, and choose the mode during setup.
Live Sound (Magnetometer)
Live Sound is an acoustic magnetic field measurement that picks up ferrous metals in real time through the included Bluetooth headphones. OKM recommends running Live Sound over a site first to find iron near the surface. Clearing those shallow objects before a 3D Ground Scan keeps small surface junk from cluttering the scan image of deeper targets.
3D Ground Scan
3D Ground Scan records measurements as you walk the scan field in lanes, then Visualizer 3D Studio turns them into a color-coded 3D graphic of the ground. That image is where you judge whether an anomaly is a buried object, such as a chest or cache, or an underground structure like a cavity, tunnel or burial chamber, and estimate how deep to dig. Depth depends on the size of the target and on ground conditions, so large objects and voids read much deeper than coin-sized items. Our guide on how deep metal detectors really go explains why target size matters so much.
SRIS Search Coil for Shallow Metal and Pinpointing
The SRIS search coil is an inductive coil that locates metal objects close to the surface, and you switch it on manually while setting up Live Sound or 3D Ground Scan. Its most practical use comes after the scan. A 3D image shows you roughly where a target is, but once you open a hole, matching the exact spot gets harder. Checking the excavated soil with the SRIS coil activated keeps small items from ending up in the spoil pile, including:
- Wedding bands and rings
- Earrings, brooches, bracelets and necklaces
- Coins, buttons, badges and pins
Analyzing Scans in Visualizer 3D Studio
Scan data transfers wirelessly from the control unit to the included Windows notebook over Bluetooth 5.1. Visualizer 3D Studio renders each scan as a rotatable 3D graphic, and you can save scans for later analysis or compare repeated passes over the same ground. The notebook arrives pre-configured, so there is no driver setup before your first scan. If you plan to install Visualizer 3D Studio on your own computer as well, check it against the minimum requirements below.
